It's a thin lead—the idea that perhaps the killer knew of the bear and used it to deflect blame onto Ogata. A number of us were in our cabins, or otherwise had effects that were difficult to prove. If you choose to look at it that way, any of the three of us could have done it, as well as some of the others.
[ He doesn't seem convinced, though he is a bit distracted by how sedate Shinobu is, looking at her for a second too long before he sighs and continues. ]
Not that I believe we did. [ It is a judgment call made on what little good faith they've gathered, but more importantly, it just seemed a hasty conclusion. ] And I trust C-3PO, but be cautious. We know so little about what happened last week...
[ It's frustrating. They hadn't caught all the killers on the island, either, but it was different here. ]
There's still so much we do not know. I don't feel any safer, even if we did destroy all that surveillance equipment before.
I have no intentions of dying like this. [ giyuu continues to have his eyes looking away from the both of them, but...yeah. ] I know that to be true for the two of you here as well.
[ even if they don't always act it. any of these three. ]
The directors' have that board of their questions to our commonly asked questions, don't they? According to them, there's no outside force that's watching us. ...if we are to continue to believe them.
[ only the residue that came with them from when their portals were messed up. though giyuu really has a hard time swallowing all of that given what they've found. if there's no one watching them.... then what does any of this mean? ]
Let there be more leads tomorrow, or something more tangible for us to hold onto.
[ Shinobu is fine, Dimitri. She may or may not be feeling any of this as strongly as she should, but she's fine.
Her brows don't exactly knit, but... ]
Ogata was killed by a bear on the island, not the one who controlled it. Until we know there's a power that can manipulate animals, I'm more inclined to say the bear was a terrible happenstance.
[ She sounds more sure of that than not, at least. ]
We have no recourse but to believe the counselors, don't we? Even if we don't trust them personally, we all keep going to them with questions and for answers. Whatever remnants or residuals that have come with us... We'll need to figure out what is here to mislead us.
[ The illusions that all of them had to experience in the various break-in groups... Those were meant to personally attack them, she thinks. ]
But I told you about my experimentation, so you two would at least have a lead in case I don't live to see a Friday. I will leave my mark and hopefully spare you some time.
[ It's very clinical the way Shinobu describes how she wants things to go if someone comes after her life. ]
[ He considers saying something productive, whether about the counselors or Ogata or whoever, but instead he straightens up against the wall. ]
Enough. Giyuu's right—we're not dying.
[ The words slip out before he has a chance to think about it—it's a completely baseless statement. And it's not as though Shinobu's given up so much as accepted a rational approach. Besides, there's no way to promise they'll all survive, and when did he start caring that they would?
He settles just as quickly as he's riled up, though he looks agitated anyway. ]
I'll see you both on Friday. And we'll—
[ His mouth twists a bit, glaring at the building around them. He thinks back to the fire, to Neena, and to everything that this twisted place kept throwing at them as distractions. ]
We'll figure it out. We owe it to ourselves to do better, this time.
[ He isn't sure if any of them deserve a better ending, but that's not the point. ]
