[ there's plenty of talk about swords this and swords that that he has overheard but he hasn't paid much attention to it. he thought they were being metaphorical instead of literal.
...at least, it sounds literal to him. giyuu doesn't say anything but looks at his blade and thinks. how many times has he gotten it repaired? to imagine it alive... ]
[ he catches that look... it must be odd for a human, to realize their weapon might be more than that, huh? they so rarely stop to think about them, unless they're in battle. ]
...I don't know if yours has a spirit or not. But most of us do. That's why I asked if it has a name.
[ giyuu will draw his sword for kara to see, showing him the words carved on it: "To Destroy All Evil". ]
It's not uncommon for multiple demon slayers to lose their lives fighting a demon. Our blades change color depending on our breaths. If they had spirits as well—there are bound to be many who are all alone.
[ a sad thought now that giyuu is in a position where he cares for what happens to them. ]
Not necessarily. Even the best swordsmen can meet their end at someone stronger, or faster, or smarter than they are - or even someone luckier. All it takes is one unlucky turn in a battle for everything to go wrong.
But there is always one who knows our blade better than the reset, no matter their skill, and one who cares for us the most. That's usually our master, and we want to protect them the most. That's our job, as swords - to protect.
they certainly have a different way of thinking, but it's not bad. giyuu just knows that the difference between him and a lower rank demon slayer is their ability. the sword is not at fault. ]
I wouldn't think that of my blade.
[ he puts his sword away back into its sheath. ]
I've trained myself to be worthy of wielding this blade and the weight that it comes with. If I fall then it's because of my ability and not my sword.
Many of us pride ourselves on our ability to protect our masters. Most of you wield us with the intention of protecting something, don't you? We may be capable of killing, but that is the real reason we're made. Is it that surprising we'd hold ourselves to that standard? The ability of the master doesn't change that.

...Maybe. But that doesn't mean they loved their masters any less, or that they won't still carry the burden of failing to protect them.

to be loved by his blade? that's an interesting concept but— ]
Isn't their master's fault for not being able to wield them better? Even a dull blade in the right hands can be made powerful.
[ perhaps it's his perspective. if he were to pick up shinobu's sword, there would be no way that he could wield it effectively as she does. ]
