Only one of us could survive, including our hosts, and they couldn't be corrupted. But our hosts were corrupted, and the last one was very powerful. So I used my power to break him.

How could you tell that they were corrupt?

...We couldn't, until we caught them. They acted the same most of the time, but evidence would stack up against them in the trials, and then they drop the act.

I was corrupted and couldn't tell. I didn't knowingly leave any hints to lead up to my discovery but killing me ended the curse.

Ours didn't knowingly leave hints. It's just how it worked out.

All of the dead, new and old, would have still been trapped on the island.
